Trek 2: Gems of Cusco

At 08:00 AM you will be picked up from your hotel, the transportation will drive for 15 to 20 min until the starting point of our trek. Our first gem to visit will be Rumi Wasi. This archaeological site comprises a set of interconnected structures, which contemplate a spatial distribution of simple enclosures, a complex system of channels, platforms, and trapezoidal niches that would have been oriented for ceremonial purposes. According to Bernabe Cobo, Rumi Wasi's pre-Hispanic name was Chuquicancha. The next gem to explore will be Hatun Plaza. This archaeological site is the smallest that we will visit today, but that does not detract from its beauty. It has walls built on the rock, following and respecting the shape of it, there are also terraces, channels and enclosures, and a privileged view of Cusco. After our guided tour to Hatun Plaza we will continue through the Qapaq Ñan (Inca Trail) for 20 minutes to our next gem, K´allachaka archaeological site. The route is scenic. Continuing our walk, we will arrive at the archaeological site of K´allachaka, very famous for the construction of its pyramid-shaped terraces. K´allachaka is a very impressive place, from the top you can see the terraces around the small valley. The last gem to explore will be Inkilltambo archaeological site. The route is scenic. The site is divided into two sectors; the agricultural and the religious area. Here we can appreciate some Colcas (food warehouses), identified in colonial vocabularies such as barns or garner "with walls" (González Holguín 1989 [1608]: 686). From here, we will hike back to Cusco city. The Tour ends approximately at 04:00PM.
